Michelle Wie won't get a chance to earn back-to-back LPGA wins.

The 20-year-old Wie, who broke through with her first professional victory a week ago at the Lorena Ochoa Invitational, withdrew from the season-ending LPGA Tour Championship on Thursday because of a sprained left ankle.

Wie, who favored the ankle throughout the round, got to 3 under after 12 holes but finished at 72 at the Houstonian Golf and Country Club. Her ankle gave way on the 13th tee, and she stumbled backward, sliced her tee shot into the rough and took her first bogey. She bent over in apparent pain on No. 14, then slipped again hitting her tee shot on No. 17.

Wie went for treatment after her round and withdrew about an hour later. She acknowledged that her ankle hurt last week and felt even worse Thursday.

"This tournament, and the support shown from the fans in Houston, meant a lot to me, and I wanted to do everything I could to fight through the injury," Wie said in a statement. "It bothered me last week in Mexico, but I was able to play through the pain. I realized today that I wouldn't be able to continue to play through it. I want to make sure that I'm being smart with it, so I will return home to have it looked at by my doctors and follow their advice for treatment."

Wie originally injured the ankle at the Solheim Cup in August.
