USA TODAY Player of the Week: Carmelo Anthony

Each week, USA TODAY selects four of the NBA's top individual performers for our Player of the Week reader ballot. This week's winner: Carmelo Anthony after a monster first week for the Nuggets.

The credentials for this week's nominees (statistics through Sunday's games):

Denver F Carmelo Anthony— Finding scoring stride early with 30, 41 and 42 points to help Nuggets win their first three games. Thursday's 41 against Portland included an 18-of-19 effort from free-throw line.

Washington G Gilbert Arenas— Comeback player of the year in the early going, averaging 28 points, 6.7 rebounds. Wizards benefitting so far with a 2-1 start.

Atlanta F-C Al Horford— Third-year pro has averaged 13.3 points and 12.3 rebounds over first three games of season. Has also blocked eight shots thus far in anchoring Hawks' 2-1 start.

Orlando C Dwight Howard— Magic star has three consecutive double-doubles to start the season; Orlando hasn't lost in preseason (8-0) or regular season (3-0).
