NBA's first Israeli, Iranian players could meet Monday

Sacramento Kings rookie forward Omri Casspi, the first Israeli to play in the NBA, might face Memphis Grizzlies center Hamed Haddadi, the league's first Iranian player, on Monday.

Iranian athletes or teams have withdrawn from international competitions where they might face Israelis. Iran does not recognize Israel and tensions between the countries have heightened as Iran pursues nuclear power.

"It is just a sport," Haddadi told FanHouse.com. "I don't know what happened with the two countries. I don't care. I just do my job."

Great start:

Milwaukee Bucks rookie point guard Brandon Jennings almost became the second player with a triple-double in his debut, with 17 points, nine rebounds and nine assists in a loss Friday to the Philadelphia 76ers. Hall of Famer Oscar Robertson had 21 points, 12 rebounds and 10 assists in his debut Oct. 19, 1960.

Jennings followed with 24 points, three assists and two rebounds in the Bucks' victory Saturday vs. the Detroit Pistons.

"Obviously, you have to be blind to not be able to see some of the gifts he has," Bucks coach Scott Skiles said.
