WASHINGTON — Washington Wizards forward Caron Butler sat out Saturday 's home opener against the New Jersey Nets with a bruised left kneecap but is expected back for Tuesday's game in Cleveland against the Cavaliers, Coach Flip Saunders said.

Washington Wizards forward Caron Butler sat out Saturday 's home opener against the New Jersey Nets with a bruised left kneecap but is expected back for Tuesday's game in Cleveland against the Cavaliers, Coach Flip Saunders said.

GAME REPORT: Wizards 123, Nets 104

X-rays and an MRI showed no serious damage for the two-time All-Star and second-leading team scorer, Saunders said.

Butler was not available to reporters before Washington's game against the Nets. He played just 17 first-half minutes in Friday 's 100-89 loss at the Atlanta, with five points and four rebounds. Saunders suggested he might have hurt the knee diving for a loose ball in the first quarter.

"What happens is, you're playing and he dove for the ball, the adrenaline's going and then when you take him out and give him the rest and he sat for those four, five minutes, it just stiffened up," Saunders said. "You want to be more cautious about it than jump into something. I think it's a lot better now that we've had it looked at.

"It's just more of a precaution than anything else. We think he'll definitely be ready for us on Tuesday. It's just a little bit too sore for him to go."

With the right shoulder injury to forward Antawn Jamison, who is expected to miss at least two more weeks, the Wizards' starting lineup had offseason acquisitions Fabricio Oberto in his spot, Randy Moye at guard and Mike Miller moving to Butler's spot. Jamison, though, did participate in the pregame shoot around.

"I saw him in game shorts and thought he was going to play," Saunders said. "I got excited. He wants to play, he thinks he can play right now but we're being a bit more cautious with that situation and hopefully he'll be ready to go here sometime soon."
