Rangers' Hamilton has another injection; out 'at least seven days'
Updated 9/12/2009 12:26 AM ET
ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — Texas Rangers outfielder Josh Hamilton (FSY) received a third injection for a pinched nerve in his back on Friday, and the two-time All-Star won't be available for "at least seven days" according to general manager Jon Daniels.

Hamilton, who missed his seventh consecutive game Friday night against the Seattle Mariners, was in California on Friday for a root-nerve epidural from back specialist Dr. Robert Watkins.

Daniels said he doesn't think Hamilton will be out for the rest of the season.

"The doctor feels he'll be OK in a week or so, but we need to see him on the field before we do any speculating," Daniels said.

Hamilton, hitting .270 with 10 homers and 49 RBIs, has been on the disabled twice this season. Last year he had a breakthrough season, batting .304 with 32 homers and 130 RBIs.

Meanwhile, Rangers All-Star third baseman Michael Young (FSY) continues his rehab from a strained left hamstring.

Young sat out his eighth straight game. He ran in the outfield and took swings in the batting cage before Friday night's game.

The Rangers hope Young will return, at least as a DH, for next weekend's home series against the Los Angeles Angels.

Daniels said he wouldn't be surprised if Young were back in the lineup before Hamilton.

"(Young) is getting better, but I don't have a definite date," Rangers manager Ron Washington said. "Hamstrings are something where you have to wait and see. But he's certainly progressed."
