NCAA tourney games moving from The Pit to Stanford in 2010

ALBUQUERQUE (AP) — Citing issues associated with a $60 million renovation of The Pit, the NCAA is moving 2010 first- and second-round women's basketball tournament games from Albuquerque to Stanford, Calif.

The games are scheduled for March 20-23.

New Mexico's home arena will be ready for regular-season contests in November for the men's and women's teams, but construction plans call for work to continue in steps during the season.

New Mexico spokesman Greg Remington said Tuesday that Lobo fans will face "some challenges" during the season, and that's not the experience the NCAA nor the university wants for visitors during the women's tournament.

New Mexico has submitted bids to host the NCAA women's tournament in 2011 and men's games in 2011, 2012 or 2013.
