Stanford's Appel undergoes another knee surgery

STANFORD, Calif. (AP) — Stanford star Jayne Appel has undergone left knee surgery for the second time in less than a year.

The school said Tuesday that the reigning Pac-10 Player of the Year had an arthroscopic procedure earlier this month to repair the meniscus in her left knee and was forced to withdraw from USA Basketball's camp to determine the roster for the women's World University Games.

The 6-foot-4 Appel, a second-team All-America selection who has led the Cardinal to back-to-back Final Four appearances, also tore the meniscus in her left knee during summer conditioning last year and had surgery in late September. She underwent left shoulder surgery in April 2008.

Appel averaged 16.1 points and 9.2 rebounds during her junior season.
