The majority of Baby Boomers are white, married, have some college education and were employed in 2006, says a report from the U.S. Census Bureau. The report is a new analysis of 2006 data, the first time the government has examined specifics on Boomers since 1996.
Baby Boomers, born between 1946 and 1964, make up about 26.1% of the U.S. population, or an estimated 78 million people.
Knowing a lot about the age group will help identify demographic and social trends, says Carrie Werner, the U.S. Census Bureau statistician who did the report. "This is one of the biggest generations this country has ever seen."
Nearly 86% of the generation was born in the USA, while 14% were foreign born.
