> SEQUINS & SHINE
Seen at: Rachel Roy, Donna Karan, Rebecca Taylor, Reem Acra, Diane von Furstenberg, Jason Wu, Lela Rose, Carolina Herrera, Ports 1961
Expert's take: "Sequins is something you feel only works for the nighttime, but it can be casual weekend wear, it can be something that works at night or for the office," Yalof Schwartz says. If you're unsure, try it in moderation: Pair a denim shirt with a glittery necklace.
> BOLD PRINTS
Seen at: Derek Lam, Jason Wu, Rebecca Taylor, Erin Wasson X RVCA, Monique Lhuillier, Diane von Furstenberg, Tracy Reese, Vivienne Tam
Expert's take: From oversize florals and polka dots to watercolor-like splashes and animal skins, prints were on parade. "You see leopard print on the runway, but it's everywhere in the audience, too," Yalof Schwartz says. "It's a trend to latch on to. You make a statement."
> RUFFLES & FRILLS
Seen at: Marc Jacobs, BCBG, Jason Wu, Rebecca Taylor, Chris Benz, Christian Siriano, Lela Rose, Ports 1961, Badgley Mischka
Expert's take: Avoid looking like a "big pouf" by using frills in moderation. Yalof Schwartz suggests pairing a ruffled neckline with a basic skirt. "Wear (ruffles) on top or bottom depending on where you want to draw the attention," she says.
> STRONG SHOULDERS
Seen at: Vena Cava, Yigal Azrouel, DKNY, Nicole Miller, Vivienne Tam, Victoria Beckham, Christian Siriano
Expert's take: "It looks good as long as it's not overdone," Yalof Schwartz says. Strong shoulders can help give the appearance of a small waist. Just belt your jacket or try one that is fitted.
