AUSGBURG, Germany (AP) — Abby Wambach scored for the United States to beat world champion Germany 1-0 in Thursday's friendly.
Wambach scored for the Olympic gold medalists in the 34th minute after capitalizing on a defensive mistake by the Germans.
Germany earlier wasted a half-dozen clear opportunities and dominated most of the match without breaching the U.S. defense.
Germany is the host of the 2011 World Cup. The match was played before a capacity crowd of 28,367 in the new Impuls Arena.
