The Braves purchased the contract of outfielder Reid Gorecki (FSY) from Class AAA Gwinnett.
McLouth left Saturday's game against the Philadelphia Phillies after aggravating a hamstring injury that forced him to miss two games last week.
General manager Frank Wren said the decision on McLouth was made after the center fielder felt more discomfort in the hamstring when he tried to run before batting practice.
Prado, the team's starting second baseman, was examined at Atlanta's Piedmont Hospital on Sunday after heat-related symptoms forced him out of Saturday's game against the Phillies. Wren said tests on Prado, including a CT scan, were negative and "hopefully ruled out some of the major things that your worry about with headaches and dizziness."
Prado did not start in Monday's makeup game against the Arizona Diamondbacks. He said before the game his head felt "heavy."
Wren said Prado has been cleared to play and cleared to fly with the team to New York, where the Braves open a three-game series against the Mets on Tuesday.
"There's no restrictions on him other than how he feels on a daily basis," Wren said, adding Prado may return to the starting lineup as early as Tuesday.
Wren said Prado's status "played a little bit" into the decision on McLouth "just because we are short on the bench."
Wren said the wait for McLouth "was going to take longer than we could afford to wait."
The Braves got McLouth on June 3 in a trade with Pittsburgh. He is hitting .258 with 15 homers and 56 RBIs.
Gorecki was expected to join the team in time for Monday's game. He was hitting .286 with nine home runs, 49 RBIs and 14 stolen bases for Gwinnett.
