Riggleman was promoted from bench coach in July to replace fired manager Manny Acta. The team went 26-61 under Acta this season and is 28-42 under Riggleman entering Wednesday's game against the New York Mets.

Rizzo says the team will begin its managerial decision-making process when the regular season ends and he hopes to have a quick decision.

He says Riggleman did "the best job he could with the ability level he had on the field."

Riggleman says he wants to stay on as manager. He also has managed the Padres, Cubs and Mariners.
