CINCINNATI (AP) Pittsburgh's Garrett Jones (FSY) homered in the second inning at Cincinnati Wednesday afternoon, the Pirates' 10,000th all-time home run in 123 years.
The Pirates first baseman led off the second inning by hitting Homer Bailey's (FSY) 1-0 pitch into the right field seats at Great American Ball Park to make Pittsburgh the 14th of the 16 pre-expansion teams to reach 10,000 home runs.
Fred Carroll hit the first Pirates home run off of Lady Baldwin of the Detroit Wolverines on May 2, 1887. Kevin Young hit Pittsburgh's 9,000th homer off the Chicago Cubs' Pat Mahomes (FSY) on Sept. 21, 2002.
Jones's homer tied the game 1-1. The team got the ball back after giving a bat and ball signed by Jones to the fan who caught it.
